The Seattle PI:

The New York Times:

HeraldNet:

  • Is football worth the risk of serious head injury?
Around this time a year ago, a conversation with a friend and fellow sports writer turned into a phone call, then a few more, then a story about former Seahawks linebacker Isaiah Kacyvenski and his former Harvard roommate and their study of brain injuries in sports.

The News Tribune:

  • Morning links: Hawks ultimate rebuilding project
Andy Benoit of NFLTouchdown.com offers this season preview on the Seattle Seahawks for the New York Times’ Fifth Down blog. In it, Benoit predicts the Seahawks to finish third in the NFC West, describing the franchise as the ultimate remodeling project that never becomes a finished product.

FOX Sports:

  • Hasselbeck not ready to be retired just yet
Don’t be fooled by his bald head, recent injury history, declining production or Seattle’s offseason acquisition of its potential quarterback-of-the-future. Matt Hasselbeck isn’t ready for pasture just yet.

Seattle Seahawks Insider:

Thanks for the plug, Sando!

Ok, so I’m not the “smart guy” he’s referring to, but it’s always nice to have your name dropped in the national media:

Smart guy agrees with me on Belichick

By the way, if you aren’t reading Sando’s NFC West blog every day, several times a day, you’re missing out on one of the hardest-working football writers out there.  And even though he’s now with a national publication, he used to be an amazing Seahawks beat writer for the Tacoma News Tribune, and he really knows his stuff when it comes to the Hawks.  Be sure to bookmark it and check it out!

Seattle Seahawks news for Monday, October 12, 2009…

Fantastic win by the Seahawks yesterday – congrats on ending the 3-game skid, and congrats on getting Matt back in fine form!  Here’s the post-whomping followup in the news:

Seattle PI:

  • Hasselbeck’s 4 TDs leads Seahawks’ rout
Matt Hasselbeck couldn’t breathe deeply without pain last week. On Tuesday he couldn’t even work out without pain medication. The next day, he finally practiced but admitted he looked “ugly.”
  • Nothing soothes the Seahawks’ hurts like 41-0
Given the relentless grimness that has attended the Seahawks season, the concluding mood at Qwest Field Sunday afternoon was startling — all fluffy kitties, butterscotch pudding and soft kisses.

Tacoma News Tribune:

  • Grading the game
After two weeks on the shelf, quarterback Matt Hasselbeck fought through the pain of a fractured rib to complete 18 of 30 attempts for 241 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions for a 125.1 passer rating.
  • Nice birthday present
In terms of pure emotion, it was difficult to discern who had more – T.J. Houshmandzadeh or the crowd of 67,228 at Qwest Field, because both had been waiting for that moment for so long.
  • Long day for ex-Seahawk Russell, new team
Returning to the field where he served as the team’s starting free safety for two seasons only to end up a surprise cut as the team whittled down to its 53-man roster, former Seattle Seahawk Brian Russell stayed true to form, saying he viewed his return to Qwest Field as only a business trip.
  • Rookies lead disruptive defense
The only similarity between them is their NFL experience coming into this season, which was none.
  • Seahawks flatten Jaguars 41-0
To a man, the Seattle Seahawks said securing a victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars was critical to keep the team’s playoff hopes alive.
  • Hasselbeck stats half the equation
If somebody had told Seahawks fans on Sunday morning that Seneca Wallace would enter the day’s game against Jacksonville to replace starter Matt Hasselbeck, they would have groaned – certain that Hasselbeck had been injured again.
  • Recap: Seattle vs. Jacksonville
Matt Hasselbeck made his return to Seattle’s lineup and threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns, as the Seahawks dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 41-0, at Qwest Field.
